Cinema offers new club chance to screen classics.
CULT flicks, silver screen classics and out-of-the ordinary movies are set to become a regular feature in Andover after the successful first meeting of a new film group.
Aiming to showcase films that might not otherwise be seen at the town's Reel Cinema, the Andover Film Club made a well-received debut last month and is now planning to keep the magic movie moments coming on the first Monday of each month at the cinema.
On 15 September, the maiden screening of the feature-length documentary Man on Wire attracted over 40 viewers - and on Monday the Oscar-winning There Will Be Blood (certificate 15) will be shown in Andover for the first time.
The club's arts officer Derek Kane said: "Obviously the cinema has been a boon for the town, but probably 80 per cent of its films are what would be considered mainstream.
"By setting up the club, we are wanting to give people a chance to see interesting films that would not usually be viable to show for a week."
Each screening will include a short talk focusing on the film.
All of the club's shows are open to the public, but a membership scheme that includes discounted entry and vouchers for regular Reel presentations, as well as the chance to go on film-relating outings and influence the club's presentations has been set up.
