Guardian 4 Star Review

Release: 2009 (Cert 15)

Director: Sam Mendes (Kate's Fella)

Starring: Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio

Following a record audience in November, Andover Film Club’s autumn season continues on Monday December 6th at the Reel with the American drama “Revolutionary Road” (cert 15).

Made in 2008, the movie reunited Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio for the first time following their triumphant performances in “Titanic”. It is a brilliant study of a marriage on the rocks and, as some critics saw it, a vision of the American Dream gone sour. Directed by Winslet’s real-life husband, the award-winning Sam Mendes, the film received three Oscar nominations. For her own performance, Winslet won the Golden Globe award for Best Actress.

As always the presentation is open to members of the public as well as members, and the show will start at 8.00pm. To avoid queues on the night, book online now.

Introduction Given On The Night, By Pete Torkington

Directed by: Same Mendes

Adapted from the novel by Richard Yates. It is a tale of a failing marriage in 1950 US suburbia. On the surface everything seems perfect, but you don't have to dig too far to find that all is not well.

Kate Winslet
Made BAFTA history in 2009 Best Leading Actress for Revolutionary Road and for The Reader. First time an actor has two nominations in this a catgeory. She won for The Reader, though many critics say her performance in tonight's film was more deserved of the awardd.

Leonardo di Caprio
I naturally take a dislike to him. Maybe it's because of his boyish good looks or possibly because he strikes me as being squeeky clean and mainstream.

He has however put in some superb performanes and is a better actor than he gets credit for. For example in:

1. Martin Scorsese's “Shutter Island”
2. Blood Diamond
3. and more recently in Inception

Look out for the performance by Micheal Shannon, playing the part of John Givings. This earned him an Oscar Nomination for Best Performance In A supporting Role.

That's it from me, enjoy the film.
