![]() | When Brendan Met TrudyMonday 7th June, 20:00 Reel Cinema, Andover Release: 2000 (Cert 15), 95 mins Directors: Kieron J. Walsh Review: Here Andover Film Club’s next presentation on Monday June 7th is the offbeat comedy “When Brendan Met Trudy” (cert 15), released in 2001. The story, set in contemporary Ireland, centres on Brendan, a shy film-obsessed teacher who meets Trudy, an extrovert girl with an unusual secret. True to the old maxim “opposites attract”, they fall madly in love, and Brendan’s world is turned upside-down! The screenplay was written by leading Irish writer Roddy Doyle, who won a BAFTA award for “The Commitments” in the early 1990s. Film buffs will enjoy a host of references to other movies in his script, but these in no way detract from a movie with wide appeal, described by one critic as “an odd couple yarn brimming with sweet Irish charm”. The presentation will start a little earlier than usual at 8.00pm and as always the film is open to the public as well as club members.
