![]() | Monday 6th February, Odeon Cinema, Andover Start time: 8:00 Release: 1938 (Cert U) Director: Alfred Hitchcock Starring: Margaret Lockwood, Michael Redgrave Following a run of recent releases, Andover Film Club’s programme returns to the classic arena on Monday February 6th at the Odeon with a showing of the Hitchcock classic “The Lady Vanishes” (cert U). Filmed in 1938, this thriller was one of the last movies made by Hitchcock in England. Its immediate success made it possible for him to negotiate a lucrative contract to work in the US. The cast includes a host of big names, including Michael Redgrave and Margaret Lockwood, and the style and setting is a powerful reminder of the atmosphere in Europe immediately before WWII. Despite the regular appearance of such classics on TV, when they have been included in the Club’s programme the Andover audience has welcomed the chance to see them back where they belong, on the big screen. “The Lady Vanishes” is expected to continue this successful theme. |
